Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.

Villa on Dunbar Rock

Off to Honduras and a dive trip at The Villa on Dunbar Rock off the coast of Guanaja!  After being out of the water for almost a year and a half we were all excited to swim with the fishes!  This trip had been cancelled in 2020 just days before we departed because the Covid pandemic shut everything down! So almost exactly a year later—Mike & Michelle, Mark & Dana, Pete & Kim, Cecilia, Micki, Joann and myself packed our dive bags, got a Covid test or two, renewed a passport, and flew to Honduras!

The rock is a pretty awesome sight to see as you arrive by boat, greeted immediately, and made to feel welcome! Our rooms were spacious and immaculate with great vistas off our porches. Cecilia and I shared room #4 for the trip!  Unpacked, with our dive bags ready, we enjoyed drinks and dinner.  We would soon learn what a gourmet fare we were in store for. Selections included- lobster, shrimp, fish, and steaks...plus luscious breads and pastries. The bar service was impeccable and even managed to whip up a Basil Margarita for me with Mike’s help!

Our dive boat, the Endeavor was spacious with a very attentive crew and diving was easy!  Raynel was our boat captain and head divemaster for the week. Kenneth, another divemaster always followed the rear of our group to keep us all safe and reasonably together. The reefs were some of the most lush I have seen in the Caribbean. Hunting lionfish and wrangling up nurse sharks provided lots of underwater entertainment.

Spotting a family of eagle rays swimming by....Dad, Mom, and Junior was a breathtaking sight on one of our first dives.  Dana finding a octopus out for a stroll on the reef during our safety stop was my favorite....love octopus!  Diving with nurse sharks swimming all around us, under us, and beside us made us feel we were back at home in the sea.

Each day we were amazed by the staff and were treated like royalty! Coffee was delivered by Cecil each morning to our room, always with a big smile on his face! Reba and the other gals made sure we were well fed and had plenty to drink when diving was completed each day. Thank goodness for all the stairs and steep ramps that helped us burn off some of the calories we consumed.

Five star resort seems to be a lacking description when describing this place.  Everything was first class, top notch, and first rate!  It was a great way to get back into traveling and diving...but sure will be hard to top! Thanks Villa on Dunbar Rock!

Happy Anniversary Part 3

After our first anniversary trip to Aruba was cancelled by Covid, and our second anniversary trip to Port Aransas was ruined by the Polar Express, we decided to give it another try, and head out to West Texas! We booked a B&B in Fort Davis called Fort Davis Mountain Inn.  We spent our days exploring the area with stops in Fort Davis, Marfa, Shafter, Alpine, and Valentine.  The Fort Davis National Historical Park provided some great photo opportunities, plus a step back in time.  We stopped at a lovely old hotel in Marfa where the cast and crew of the movie “Giant” stayed!  Lots of photographs of Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor. We did the Fort Davis scenic loop with a picnic along the way at Madera Canyon Trail. For dinner one night we drove over to Alpine and had a great dinner at Spicewood.
The highlight, I think was a trip to Shafter, a old silver mining town with a huge rugged cemetery.  The rustic beauty provided by the rocks, cactus and weathered crosses provides a perfect final resting place for many souls!
We had a good time, good weather, and headed back home! West Texas never disappoints!
